a painting of the mythical creature called the MOOSE... legend says it is bigger than a Clydesdale and has horns larger than most satellite dishes. Silly, I know, but it is only a fictional beast, after all ;)

such an amazing beast, and there are a lot of them in the great woods near me... hard to imagine since they don't usually show themselves! Thank you :)

Yeah. I saw a few when I lived up North, usually because they were blocking the road, but also when they wandered into town because of the unusually heavy and sudden snowfall a couple years back.

"up north"?

do you mean Arctic circle "north" or New England north?
I live in MA ... and I would love to see another Moose; it's been a long time (but the last time was far too close!) ;)

Sorry, I'm just used to saying that and tend to forget to specify precisely which "north." I live in Vancouver, BC right now but I used to live in Fort St. John which is about mile 54 on the Alaska highway and apparently at the same latitude as Moscow, but I haven't checked that for myself. We have a lot of big game up there, moose, elk, sheep, carribou, wood bison, etc. In 2006 we had a big snowfall that stacked up several feet inside of a week. Not only did it make foraging difficult but it was the kind of snow with a crust that allows the wolfs to run on top while the deer punch through, so we had some moose wandering into town. There was a bull that had taken up residence in the alleys behind our house, and there were mother and calf prints on our front lawn where they were picking at the dried leaves left on out neighbour's trees.

Never seen a moose up close and personal though, but I'd call that a good thing. They aren't always friendly folk.

no problem! And that is certainly a bit further north than me ;)
